Oh sure. I liked HTML. I strongly dislike CSS and these clunky-ass DOM mechanisms. And the cretinous jackasses who desiged JavaScript should be packed off to Hell straightaway.

You and me both! Althought I did made brutalist.style to make pure HTML somewhat nicer without needing to add any classes to it.

Long ago, there was a technology called the Java Servlet. It had an interesting wrinkle: the Servlet could open a Socket to the server which launched it. That Socket could be secured, too.

But Sun Micro was too stupid to find its own buttocks in the dark without a map and a flashlight - and Microsoft never saw a new technology it didn't want to fugg with.. [insert oldguy rant here]

I am actually old enough and have been programming long enough to have written my fair share of servlets AND Java Server Pages (.jsp) haha. You are ranting to the choir!

... so I'm starting in writing Rust. Needed some GUI components, so I sat down and wrote the old Java BorderLayout in Rust....

That is neat. We have a Rust project going for podcasting and we do embedded HTML in that as well using maud.lambda.xyz

If you haven't seen Bevy yet I would recommend it if you're doing desktop apps and need a UI. Their ecosystem is fantastic if you want to use it or even get inspiration. bevyengine.org

We are proudly just fucking using HTML for apply.coop, but with some CSS and certainly no JavaScript. We haven't launched yet, but we're getting there.
