Looks like @Robbie is #newHere give them a follow particularly as I believe his #Diaspora* Pod is smaller they'll need more federation to see what we offer here on the #Fediverse

Kids Are Getting a Bad Reputation and it's Not Justified

I'm still #newhere because I wanted a place to make a #blog that doesn't make me make an account, pay for it, or have ads to pay for it. So here's my first blog entry.

All you see on TV #news or on the internet about #kids is about how stupid kids are, how confused about everything from #science, especially #biology, to #history and human interaction. Maybe in big cities where #education is all corrupted by politics that might be true. But I don't think you can write off a whole generation because kids in the news don't know which bathroom to use and can't tell you anything about the history of their own country and culture. We're not all like that! In fact I think the majority of kids, the ones you never hear about, aren't so ignorant and confused as people think.

I wonder if that is true about a lot of things. Watching the news it all looks bad! But people find ways to make life work and get through life without all that drama and without wars and protests and things that just make noise and hide the real truth behind one crisis after another.

#Adults reading this should know that probably most kids aren't all mixed up about their identity or their gender. The only thing really in doubt is our future, because the world we are about to inherit is a big battleground where the powerful compete for more power and who use confusion and mayhem to accomplish it.

while to read

is a reassuring comfort,

there are no public posts on that profile. (and is that image ai generated?).
... is re-posting a limited post, public, a breach of trust? kinda doxxing?

in reply to Ji Fu

When I access https://diaspora.ragesoss.com/people/d3b0d5706ebc013c0d70723c920eeef3 directly, rather than through my instance, I see like 4 public posts. I think that means no one else on my instance is following them.
in reply to Ji Fu

@Digit that includes the one that @Ji Fu shared, so I believe that means this IS a public post.
in reply to Ji Fu

@Digit also I don't think doxxing is a thing. It is just made-up gibberish. A lof of things people call doxxing used to be as easy as owning a phonebook, and as far as things like "sharing private posts" everyone should assume that anything you put on the internet will be there forever and accessible by anyone and post accordingly.
in reply to Ji Fu

@ミ★ Confederate Space Force ★彡 since I'm on Friendica it might work different. If you want to test it by tagging me in a limited post we can see.
in reply to Ji Fu

Thank you for resharing it, @Ji Fu! All my posts so far have been public. If they're not showing up in my profile maybe I need to change a setting or something.
in reply to Robbie

I believe they are showing up in your profile @Robbie. Accessing your profile from outside of diapsora.ragesoss.com may have less content depending who, if anyone, on that pod follows you or anyone else on your instance. You are a new user on a pod I have never heard of, so this stuff is normal. Often newbs give up on the 'verse too quickly becasue they feel like no one is here, but it takes a while to get established. I find that is one of the advantages over closed-source centralized freedom-denying surveillance-capitalist platforms like Twitter & Facebook. The most important part to remember is #itWorksLikeEmail.I first joined the 'verse back in like 2011, but it never became my primary social media until like 2021. I didn't really understand that part, and as such had many accounts on different pump.io platforms that don't exist anymore.

Not long after I created this Friendica account I was surprised to learn my original profile on identi.ca (the original open-soucre microblogging website that led to what is now called the fediverse) not only still existed but the password recovery worked.

How does the #Fediverse work? #ItWorksLikeEmail

Over the past few days as a result of the recent #twittermigation and all the new #introduction posts I've made numerous comments similar to this, so I figured I'd just make one Pinned Blog post and link to it instead

I first started using the 'verse >10 years ago, back when it was just called "de-centralized microblogging" (which was actually pretty centralized from my recollection of identi.ca being the only instance that really was up more often than it was down) I never really used it as my primary Social Media for big part because I didn't really "get" it, until I gave up Facebook for Lent this year and decided I was finally going to dive all in to GNU Social whether I liked it or not.

Here is what was most helpful for me in understanding how this all works. #ItWorksLikeEmail

your email provider can have its own rules, (like you can't send spam), and you can chose to host your own server(where you make the rules, but most people chose not to), and you can talk to anyone else in the world who has an email address (regardless of whether or not you are both on yahoo.com), and while most people just use it for one thing, it can be used for others (like posting to mail lists, or forums that have integrated mail support)

in reply to Ji Fu

hrm, could be a federation issue? ... i may check from some of my other accounts on other diaspora instances. ... but later, when i regain peef after busy day.

also...

I don’t think doxxing is a thing. It is just made-up gibberish. A lof of things people call doxxing used to be as easy as owning a phonebook, and as far as things like “sharing private posts” everyone should assume that anything you put on the internet will be there forever and accessible by anyone and post accordingly.

uncompelling logic, and dangerous denialism that feeds into the complicity in complacent opsec-neglect that serves abusers.

gotta avoid peeps with such flippant breaches of trust in their philosophy.

rather reminds me of the narcissistic-magnanimity trait of taking credit and apportioning blame. ... the being dismissive of such a concern. the making up lies, phrased with plausible deniability...

but meh, idk, i've just been reading about such again recently, maybe seeing the traits more than they're really there.

@ミ★ Confederate Space Force ★彡 I don't see anything in my notifications. If you give me the complete URL I can tell if it existd at all on this instances or others could share it.

chancing by diaspora://digit@nerdpol.ch/posts/d4b63f60c9870138acf1002590d8e506 again, i'm reminded ephemorality (ephemoralness? ... impermanence) of even that which gets presumed worth of adhering to the advice of "everyone should assume that anything you put on the internet will be there forever and accessible by anyone and post accordingly."

anyways, back on topic... of more federating for robbie...

interestingly,

can see the posts from my sysad account,

can see the posts while not logged in from any account as https://diaspora.ragesoss.com/u/robbie

but from this nerdpol.ch account, they dont display, and robbie does not even show up in the search. tried out nerdpol.ch after seeing iviv.hu were having issues.
can manually type in the permacode for the account, on the nerdpol.ch instance, https://nerdpol.ch/people/d3b0d5706ebc013c0d70723c920eeef3
no show on https://iviv.hu/people/d3b0d5706ebc013c0d70723c920eeef3 either. interesting.
i dont know how the federating works from a podmin or technical perspective, but, is this something to do with how the pods are configured?

oh a tab from this morning with an unsent (& incomplete?) comment? .... no-proofread-send.

in reply to Digit

@Digit my understanding is content that was authored prior to your pod learning the user exists would never be visible. Beyond that I would recommend contacting your podmin.
in reply to Ji Fu

Resharing gets old posts onto another pod, IF someone on that pod is following the resharer.
