New #blog post: Why I Love the Command Line

I was grappling with a much heavier subject for a blost, but thankfully, I had this extra little subject in my back pocket, just ready to be picked up and written on much more easily and enjoyably than mental health stuff. ;)

Nah, even when I have a good wireless, optical mouse in front of me, #CommandLine is #BAE. XD

Well done, as always. I appreciate using terminal to just get stuff done, though I tend to lean more on GUI. But if terminal brings you Vulcan joy, that's great then!

I'll do a follow up on how I do file management from the terminal. It's not quite as dull as only using basic commands like cd, but it's not a full terminal file manager like ranger, either.

But I think tomorrow's #blost will be a little bit more meta (and I don't mean the idiot company that's destroying the world) XD

I'd probably use GUIs more if they were more keyboard-navigable.

But there are some things that GUIs are just better at. Namely, art. Probably a handful of other things. ;)

Good post. You make some good points. DOS interfaces were pretty good. Glad to see some modern languages support TUIs.

Thanks! It felt a little schlocky and disorganized to me. I was trying to get something out because the heavier subject was getting clogged in my "writing pipes." XD

I actually think modern #Linux/#UNIX #TUI programs could learn a lot from #MSDOS programs of old.

Especially Lotus 1-2-3. That had a very novel model for interaction that I've never quite seen replicated.

I'll have to find a vm of it somewhere and play with it again, after 31 years ;)

I still have a dBase III database on a 3.5" floppy around here somewhere. Simpler times.

I love the terminal too.

I especially love seeing pacman go across the screen with pacman -Syu
