@kentpitman unpublished essay reading and #live

Also Cross-Referencing Editor Facility Kent wrote at Open University in England one summer on the Zmacs/Zwei #emacs substrate.

Live chat in #lambdaMOO as always, and I will also be watching #emacsconf on #irc. Please do engage with Kent directly live (through my voice)

Note on my CREF editing facility that if you want pictures, since we won't have them except in your imagination on the radio, you can look to my paper on it. The PDF is obtainable from here and gives you something to scroll through as we talk.

See the page - Interviewing @kentpitman Live in less than 23 hours about his writing of the CREF editor tagging/hyperlinking/answer-generating (kind of) in the 80s. Links to Kent's thread on the page.

The SDF Mastodon is down can cannot be expected to recover before the show. PLEASE boost this one for visibility, and Kent's thread (and add questions/comments to address there).

I'm a DJ so I say, "What. You can't see the picture. Let me hold it a little closer to the microphone."

other than @sacha et al.'s #emacsconf on IRC, the /really/ live hangout happens in LambdaMOO:
Something like
telnet lambda.moo.mud.org 8888

You are posting as @screwlisp@me.dm , where you have 41 followers, as opposed to @screwtape, where you have 1.3K followers. I see that you also have @screwlisp@gamerplus.org (9 followers)

This is an excellent way NOT to communicate with people.

I asked you about today's show (@screwtape) 5 hours ago, which I guess you didn't see if you're only looking at @screwlisp at either of its addresses today.

There seem to be other people posting from mastodon.sdf.org?

I didn't understand that the problem was a server being down (in some sense or another).

Posting from an alt account that few follow isn't really an effective workaround.

Then again, I don't know what a good workaround would be.

Ideas?

I enjoyed this essay and the show, as always 😀

I am a big supporter of reinventing the wheel. It doesn't make any sense from a capitalist perspective, but most things of value are not actually valued by that system. Its not the "Wheel 2.0" that is important, it is the knowledge I personally have gained (and can hopefully impart on other novice wheel-builders). Ultimately, I am the "product", not what I make

@mostlypat
Thanks for the kind words and additional detail. I think you're right should bring capitalism into the picture. It's sort of the driving force between why everybody has an impatience about just doing it a certain way. In an automated society, if we survive at all, we may need to rethink the purpose of people. I'd prefer a Star Trek kind of outcome, but we don't seem to be going in that direction.
