if someone said that cats are secretly aliens, they spend so much time watching things, and then while they sleep they are uploading memories back to their home planet, I wouldn't have any evidence to prove them wrong.
@Urban_Hermit We know from evolutionary studies and the fossil record that cats are from our world, but you've touched here on an important principle of the Scientific Method that's not taught anywhere near enough: disprovability.
In science, any hypothesis must be disprovable, or else it's just conjecture. We can imagine many things that are difficult or impossible to disprove. Relying on the common heuristic of absurdity isn't good enough.
