Hallo an alle #neuhier und #althier,

da das #Fediverse immer noch am wachsen ist und es jetzt wohl gerade größere Wanderungsbewegungen weg von #Reddit zu #Lemmy und dem Fork #kbin gibt, hier mal ein aktualisiertes Übersichtsdiagramm um zu zeigen, dass das Fediverse nicht nur aus #Mastodon besteht.

Erst mal vielen Dank an @Mike Kuketz 🛡 und @Imke :FreiburgSocial: für das erstellen des Diagramms.

Dann gibt es natürlich auch noch ein paar Links zu Seiten auf denen man sich einen Überblick über das Fediverse verschaffen kann:


Edit: Wie ich gerade gelernt habe, ist kbin doch kein Fork von Lemmy, ähnliche Funktionen sind zwar da, ist aber eine unabhängige Entwicklung.

Ja, den Hinweis muss man immer mal wieder geben - das #Fediverse ist weit und sehr verschieden.
Bei einem Punkt habe ich mich gefragt: Ist #kbin wirklich ein Fork von #Lemmy? Die sind doch sehr unterschiedlich? Habe mich aber zu wenig in den Code vertieft. @imke @kuketzblog

@Hiker ich dachte bisher das es ein Fork ist, bin mir aber auch nicht so ganz sicher. Meines Wissens nach kann kbin das was Lemmy auch kann und noch etwas mehr.

@Montag @Hiker nein #kbin ist kein Fork von #Lemmy - es ist eine Eigenentwicklung, in die wohl auch Code von verschiedenen Projekte eingeflossen ist [Quelle s.u.]
Beide sind in erster Linie Content-/New-Aggregatoren, wie immer man es nennen mag. kbin hat aber zusätzlich noch ein Microblogging-Tab und ist optisch und vom Handling her schon ziemlich anders als Lemmy. Like I mentioned many time before, this isn't my first attempt at creating an aggregator. Years ago, I built something similar, and back then I drew a lot of inspiration from Postmill. This time, to avoid starting from scratch, I get some elements from my old snippets. Originally, kbin was meant to be a project just for me and a few friends, so I didn't attribute the origin authors. That's not an excuse, though — I should have done it right away when the project became public on git. I have a point in my roadmap called "Preparing a repository for contributors," where I allocated a significant amount of time to educate myself about licenses, attributions, and so on. Unfortunately, everything unfolded in the wrong order.

I think Emma is right. Since I share my small successes with you, I also want to be transparent about my failures and mistakes. I will push the proper attributions to the repository today along with some critical fixes.

To avoid reinventing the wheel, I took some code used in federation from Pixelfed as well. Essentially, there are two projects two projects will be marked. However, I have never concealed this fact:

I mean that I'm not a guy who wants to steal your code. It's obvious that someone will take a look at the code of a project that is very similar to theirs. Sometimes, I just become terribly messy when I have to do many things at once. This lesson will definitely teach me to prioritize tasks better.

In the end, I can only promise that once everything settles down and I manage to extract a library for ActivityPub, I will revisit the Postmill repository, this time with a pull request proposal.

The commit 5fb537bd50 lifts several classes straight from [Postmill](https://gitlab.com/postmill/Postmill/), a non-fediverse forum with voting and threaded comments that predates Kbin by approximately 5 years.

ja ich habe schon beide benutzt. Kbin er fühlt sich an als ob es noch mehr entwickelt ist. Sie haben beide noch Probleme, bestimmt, aber das wird sich lösen mit der Zeit 😀
