@TheFrenchGhosty As somebody with a large platform who recently migrated to Mastodon, this is not really a complaint that I've heard. The complaints that I hear relate more to the janky/unintuitive onboarding, search, and follow system. They're just really confusing and counterintuitive and make it difficult for people to actually adopt the platform seamlessly. Also complaints about the admins on the network being unreasonable, which I also noticed is sort of endemic. A lot of people don't feel safe on the platform.

I mean, I myself decided to self-host because I honestly don't feel safe on anybody else's server, considering how the servers are typically run. I'd probably get booted for uttering completely pedestrian positions, lol.

@Chris Werewolf ⁂🐧📰🌱☕ IMHO, mastodon.social is a perfectly fine instance for someone just getting started on the fedi and trying to figure things out. Eventually though, I recommend finding a smaller instance more suited to one's individual preferences.

If you're just sticking with a big server, you've kind of missed out on the whole point of the fedi.
