#finale suffer from "#vi / #vim syndrome" where it's not working the way people expect shit to work.

  • Seriously, this is something that #nano does better by showing the necessary #shortcuts, but for #GUI & #TUI apps that ain't designed for a #TTY - #Terminal like #ed, this is just bad.

Whilst Vim [ & Neovim have their reasons to be "archaic" by modern standards it's pretty clear why noone but a sadistic person who wants to either torture or discourage curious people would force this upon people these days.

@screwlisp good question...

I tend to timecode, but in case you're stuck on #Iridium for #Internet access:

  • I did coincide with @tantacrul's criticism that professional tools need to be beginner-friendly and accessible, which #finale isn't!

and "the rogue keys but it's a text editor" is not beginner friendly? ;p but thanks for spelling it out for me.

@screwlisp granted, @tantacrul does make a lot of good content re: Creative Software and Interface design.

  • I wished he'd put his "janky tunes" from his videos in a seperate channel/playlist/put them up on some audio hosting site cuz they are awesome beats...

Espechally that Uuuuuh... Finale! beat that is now again stuck in @fuchsiii 's head because I watched the video again...

@screwlisp So OFC @tantacrul points out that if an #app isn't beginner-friendly, espechally when it's a #creative tool aka. "means to do something else" it needs to be #accessible and #easy to use, otherwise it'll suffer longterm from it.

  • The most extreme example is SCORE, which is nowadays #abandonware and literally the ed of notation in that it's doing precisely 0 handholding and expects users to know it's shortcuts or fall off the cliff face first to get run over by a 40t truck *and a freight train...

@screwlisp But then explain Blender, which is #1 even in pro spaces, and it's a hate-crime against usability.
