Anyone have strong opinions on hardware tokens? Thinking it’s time I buy a Yubikey, but curious if there are other / better brands? I’m not really sure how to evaluate these things.

They don't work when you lose them or leave them at home so I would attach them to an Apple airtag for example

yeah, that’s a great point. Will definitely want a way to keep track of it.

I’m already pretty well practiced at carrying and not losing important things, but mistakes obviously happen.

Any experience recovering accounts after losing one? How painful is that process?

The recommendation is to always attach 2 hardware keys to any important account. You carry one with you and keep the other in a secure location. This way if you lose one of them, you can still login to your account and replace the lost key with a new one.
