❓ Does anybody know of a Fediverse instance that supports long-form blogging with images, accepts new members, and is not limited in content to technology?

:boost_requested: Boosts appreciated for visibility, thank you.

In terms of software projects, #Plume allows long-form blogging with images, but I couldn't find a lot of suitable open instances. I have a plan B with Plume, but it's not optimal.

#WriteFreely is also quite mature and widely spread, though media upload requires a paid account on write.as and I couldn't find open public instances.

I am aware of e.g. Friendica, but I don't know it from the inside. Reports by people using projects like it are appreciated.

@Floppy@mastodon.me.uk Thank you for the suggestion!

I considered, but when I try to sign up it asks for a credit card to confirm identity. While I understand the necessity for this step esp. nowadays, I find this particular ask a bit much. (To be clear, not planning anything shady, just being defensive with sharing personal data.)

Right now I'm not sure whether this is going to be a one-off thing or something lasting. When/if I'm committed to long-term adventures I would definitely give Ghost a try.

I've been considering spinning up a service not unlike what you describe for a while. I could always configure my Pleroma to allow very long posts, but there's surely better OSS software out there.

If you want to collaborate, let me know.

@ltning Hey, thank you for suggesting and offering!

It depends a little on what exactly you are planning, but sounds interesting!

I think I'm looking for some platform where long-form posting is common and in lower frequency than what's common on the typical micro-blogging platforms (Mastodon, Pleroma, etc.). If I'm honest, I'm not quite sure how well that would work. But thanks for offering here too!

@ltning Sorry, was a bit swamped the last days.

I am aware of WriteFreely and am very fond of it. But for my particular case I am not sure whether it is going to be a long-term thing and then I hesitate a little to invest money.

I know writefreely provides blogging but it doesn't support images unless loaded from an image uploading website (like imgur).

@Orca Thank you for the comment!

I saw that that WriteFreely's flagship instance supports paid accounts with image hosting, but afaict they have asome homebrew service (snap.as) for image hosting as well.

Friendica can seamlessly follow all the other Fedi content, including Lemmy and Mbin, which Mastodon can't parse properly.

@carturo222 Today I learned. Thanks for sharing!
I haven't noticed any Friendica instances in the past, but I guess that just speaks for the software adhering to standards.
