BookWyrm is a Fediverse alternative to GoodReads.

They've just opened their onboarding site at:

https://joinbookwyrm.com

("Onboarding" is when you make it as easy as possible for people to join something.)

BookWyrm and its instances are currently still in beta testing, but you can join now if you want to try it out. Instances marked as "closed" mean you can join but you have to request an invitation.

Does anyone know if we can see messages originally posted on a bookwyrm instance on a mastodon instance yet?

I tried to find a random user from bookwyrm.social/ from the mastodon instance that I am, but could get it.

Yes, you can. BookWyrm federates with Mastodon etc.

For example @mouse is viewable from Mastodon.

I tried replacing 'mouse' with 'thumb' (https://bookwyrm.social/user/thumb/), but that profile is not showing up in our mastodon instance.

Any idea why that could be?

mouse profile was https://floss.social/web/@mouse@bookwyrm.social

So I tried
https://floss.social/web/@thumb@bookwyrm.social

but it doesn't show up.

I'm not sure how those links work on mastodon -- neither /web/@user@bookwyrm.social links for me for on my home instance, but I'm able to find both users without issue by searching the username

I just tried searching for https://bookwyrm.social/user/thumb/ and it worked fine on mstdn.social, mas.to and mastodon.online.

One possibility is there was a bug on a recent version of Mastodon to do with long links to non-Mastodon platforms. I think it's been fixed on the latest version so perhaps when your instance updates these links might start working?

But as salt marsh says, looking up the username (AT username AT instance) should work too?

I have no idea what happened. But when I search for the user named thumb, it shows up all right on my instance as well.

But it definitely wasn't showing up despite multiple attempts earlier.

And even today I initially got a error 503 (I think it was 3 at the end) initially.

Perhaps the user will show up only after someone in my instance @ mentions them or something, maybe.

I've had some trouble with this. I've been taking with the developer and they've had me open a ticket for them.

In the meantime, you can paste the link for the post into your search and then boost it.

Okay, I've done more research on this. The reason that my posts wete'nt showing up on Mastodon is because I had made them before I was following my profile. There is still an issue federating with Friendica, though.
