So I went into the pharmacy to follow up on the renewal of my #ADHD meds. Turns out this new doctor did in fact respond to the fax requesting the renewal but specifically specified not to fill it until the literal day I was supposed to run out.

Fortunately, I occasionally forget to take them, so I have a few spares, but God damn this guy doesn't understand how ADHD works.

@Bernie A Bit Merrily Does It That's easier said than done. I'm in Canada and we have a doctor shortage because the US keeps poaching them from us.

@Bernie A Bit Merrily Does It Oof. For the time being, I'm hoping that things get a little easier when the company that's in charge of digitizing my records and transferring them to the new doctor finally, you know... does that.

At the moment, all he has to go on is my say so and an old prescription bottle that I supplied as proof that I had been prescribed them in the past, so I guess his hesitancy is somewhat justified, maybe.

@hyperreal I actually got a 90 day supply last time. The pharmacy's been able to give me 100 pills in the past.

It's definitely the doctor. My previous one retired and this guy took over. He'd made no secret of the fact that he doesn't like my being on these meds.

I love that he'll let me have a 90 day supply at a time, but picking up the refill a week and a bit in advance is out of the question for some reason. 🙃

Edit: typo

@Bernie A Bit Merrily Does It This.

It reminds me of a previous time I went to pick my prescription up at the pharmacy.

Pharmacist: So, you've been without these for 20 days then?

Me: Technically yes. Just not the 20 days you think.

we agree with your conclusion, although we also think that at least some of the bigotry is institutionalized rather than personal, in the sense that doctors actually tell each other to do this stuff.

oh, yeah, sorry, we didn't really mean to express an opinion on the scale of the problem, only its structure. we've definitely had quite a few doctors who we would broadly characterize as good people who care about helping people and are not bigoted about that particular topic.

we don't feel like we're in a position to really guess about how common these problems are
