I don't have any problem with this, it's not terribly dissimilar from something like Ghost / Substack.

@me Being able to afford free time to make videos (or e.g. open source code) is a privilege. Not sure if just chatting on Mastodon is a huge use case. But while waiting for Universal Basic Income this could be useful for some 😀.

@me That was sort of my first reaction, too. But apparently instances could also sub.club to raise the money they need to keep their servers running, which sounds like it could be a good thing.

@Jeri Dansky Perhaps, but I think the way sub.club is going about it is deeply flawed. The nature of ActivityPub doesn't lend itself to keeping paid posts restricted to paying members only. You'd need centralization (or a really convoluted e2ee scheme) to ensure that.
