Today, I had a seriously shocking discovery.

I have been pronouncing "URL" wrong forever.

Apparently it's weird to roll it off the tongue as "earl", you're supposed to say: YOU ARE EL as in individually U R L.

Thanks, I hate it.

tiddy roosevelt reshared this.

If you asked me the "earl", I would have no idea what you were talking about. I have only ever heard it as U R L.
in reply to Sar

@Sar i got some speeches for you, but people might not know what i'm talking about it seems
@Sar
in reply to Liam

saying earl is like saying β€œwuh wuh wuh” instead of β€œdouble-yoo double-yoo double-yoo”
in reply to kali

@kali yeah but, earl actually rolls off the tongue perfectly, don't fight me
@kali
in reply to Liam

Look, you may think I am weird, and you would be incredibly right.

But, say it as earl, see how it deliciously rolls off the tongue.

If I'm wrong, I don't want to be right.

in reply to Liam

now imaginig you saying earl like "ear-l".

Wtf man.

in reply to Liam

Both ways can be right. u-rl sounds like a mountain range in Russia, Earl is humanizing & maybe more friendly.
in reply to Liam

Funny enough in german you say it as a word and not the letters 😜
For that matter, I am also very grateful for the german pronunciation of "www" which is about a tenth of the length of the english one.
in reply to Liam

This is the way! URL: the only earl that matters! 😹
in reply to Liam

never did else, which is funny since we share the same name xD
in reply to Liam

now I'm imagining someone pronouncing the emulator "PPSSPP" like the sound when you take the pump off of a freshly inflated tire and the valve is still open for a brief moment.
in reply to Liam

The humble URL originates from a Kryptonian engineer with an incidental familial link to a well known super hero. So it’s referred to a β€œyou are el” to commemorate its creator, Youar-El.
in reply to Liam

but honestly, "youarell" also sorta rolls off the tongue pretty well?
in reply to Liam

heh, at Akamai we made a fake employee action group, Employees Against Ridiculous Locution to protest a coworkers pronouncing it earl
in reply to Liam

Although I bend "URL" into "you-errell" [sic], we also have cURL, the client for URL tool, which I can't imagine anyone spells out...
in reply to Liam

idk just say it really fast? Like if you say U R L really quickly, it sounds exactly like earl, lol
in reply to Liam

wait until you hear that you pronounce the G in GIF just like the g in gigantic.

🀣

in reply to Liam

oh, definitely. Unless you thought I meant the other g in gigantic. Then I agree with you.
in reply to Liam

jiff (gif) and ek-se (exe) are forgivable, not sure about earl here.
