ProxyCaller: Phone Call Support

The Autistic Self-Advocacy Network has created yet another fantastic resource for anyone who needs it: Proxy Caller Project. What is it? It is a resource to help those who have a difficult time making phone calls. Photo by Antoni Shkraba Studio on Pexels.com Many disabled people struggle with phone calls due to communication differences, difficulty with mouth speech, anxiety, or any number of other issues that interfere.

Sounds like a valuable service. I get anxiety from it until I do it and then I do ok take a break repeat process.

In order to stave off stress I quit caring how long I take or off I mess up I apologize. I still have phone avoidance and prefer text.

I have one group I’m a member of and they have all their videos up. I don’t mind one on one calls as long as I know the person is neurodivergent and they know what that means to them.

😮‍💨.
Thanks Amy!

My automatic speech when I ring people up is “My name is Ben and I give X permission to speak on my behalf”

Gonna update this when I get to my computer - apparently it’s specific to calling your reps which is also helpful but n it as broad as I thought when I first found it

It has been updated to reflect the specific purpose of the resource! And I will be putting together a post of supports for people who struggle with phone calls.

This sounds like something we ought to put together that covers the general need, like you first thought. I do a lot of calling for my circle.

@MiriShuli I'd love if they can expand it, though I am going to see if something general already exists
