I've kept my SimpleLogin account separate from my Proton account for this possibility. Were you using the built-in alias functionality or a separate alias solution? I haven't tried to migrate, yet, but I'm hoping the separation does still exist for and I can just point my aliased addresses at a new mailbox.

I'm also probably going to look into a different email alias provider, because SimpleLogin is owned by Proton.

If/when I do migrate off of Proton, I'll likely use this as an opportunity to use my own registered domain, too. I still want to use a generalized alias email domain but having a custom domain for my personal email would be good.

Also glad that there is a “work item” [0] for the team that began this, to change it so we don't have #LLMs imposed on our work.

[0]: not linking to the work item because it's an internal discussion that should not be dogpiled. Just surfacing the fact so people know there's ongoing resistance and hope for improvement.

The new policies for the Linux kernel make it more or less impossible to support a slop-free fork of Linux, so if you're worried about the reliability of your system level software, or have ethical concerns about LLM usage on your computer, the time to act is, well, now.

If you have time this weekend, I recommend you to try one of the slop-free systems: NetBSD, 9front, Haiku, or OpenBSD. If you're adventurous, you could try new AlpineBSD, or research smaller systems, like RedoxOS or FreeDOS. If you don't feel adventurous, you might want to check out anti-AI Linux distributions, like Elementary or Gentoo.

There's no "one solution that fits all". But there's a solution that I chose for myself, and that's NetBSD: it gives me the most freedom, it supports most of my hardware, and can run a great deal of software I need. It's not easy to run, but it's a great learning opportunity. There's quite a few folks around using BSD and capable of giving hints and advice, so if you feel stuck, toot about #netbsd.

Due to irrelevant nerdy reasons, I've spent some time handling Magic the Gathering cards the past few days, and I LOVED seeing artists credited clearly.

We are surrounded by illustrations and drawings whose authors go unnamed unless you dig deep into the instructions or manuals, and sometimes not even that.

Now, we're being swamped by Computer Rendered Artificial Pictures (CRAP) fed on their creativity and their unique ways to see and create.

Let's normalise acknowledging artists together with their art. *Human* art.

Image captions, ALT text, anything. Write their names. Promote them. Shut up slop corporations by giving voice to the humans who should *never* lose it.
