I've been trying to use #org-mode and #emacs-jupyter as a replacement for Jupyter notebooks in a #Bioinformatics course I'm teaching. After having to manually force org-mode to update inline images a handful of times I did this in anger: github.com/pjones/org-inline-i…

I've been chaotically bookmarking things to watch for some time (reddit links, imdb links, movie names, directors, etc.) to an #emacs #org file primarily via Journelly.

The thing is, it's not super practical to browse when I need it. Today, I finally did something about that. A little scripting and LLM help got me my first browsable catalog.

Maybe I'll write this up and also share the film/tv series list. #film #movie #movies #tv #tvseries #show #shows #video #videos #plaintext

I create my teaching materials as #OER with #EmacsReveal [1]. For my course on IT Systems [2] in summer term 2025, I switched to #Kokoro [3] as #TextToSpeech model, and students generally liked the quality (see README of emacs-reveal for evaluation results). Teaching resources are video-like, interactive HTML presentations with audio, generated from #OrgMode text files using GitLab CI/CD pipelines.

This holiday season, I found the time to release #EmacsReveal 9.54.0, which includes the settings I used for IT Systems. I also updated the #TTS Howto [4] to use Kokoro.

Feel free to reuse my course materials and emacs-reveal! All the best for 2026!

Today, @edumerco motivated me to give a deeper look to #Org mode and #Emacs #Lisp for processing data as a reproducible computational notebook. It reminds me this great MOOC [1]. 🤩

And today I learn more about #Sociocracy thanks @edumerco! Well, the concept of #Guix teams needs more love. 😍

Bah the kind of day when you feel part of something. 🥳

Thanks @bzg for the connection. 😁

Doing some experiments with my org-pandoc template. So, I am about to publish some documents. So I've extended my Makefile to handle book-alike outputs. Current output formats pdf (weasyprint), docx (with German reference file), hrml, epub - including template support.

Best part - I don't rely on LaTeX installation. YES, finally! The project is pretty much Area51 but it starts to work already - so yes, it's usable.

/cc @pandoc - thanks for the great tool!

(boost, favorite - sharing is caring) It would be cool to get some more eyes on that.

Alright this^ will be live in 8 hours. If you will be asleep, leave questions and comments for me to ask @publicvoit here!

I wrote this fallback sketch of ideas
- #emacs and #orgmode seem almost synonymous
- Outside emacs users, projects add a #markdown flavor instead
- #IDE
- Implications of #orgDown (#orgUp ?) having a built-in major mode
- #git READMEs
- non-emacs #org support (#commonLisp cl-org-mode , cl-el ..), elisps like @ramin_hal9001 #schemacs , #lem

(thanks @sacha's #emacsnews)

More experiments with #org link previews #emacs

Who wants #org link previews? 🙋‍♂️ #emacs

Another item I'm now considering is target audience. While I love and use org myself, we are a fairly niche bunch. To expand the pool of users (potential Journelly downloads), I also need Markdown support. Working on that now.

Neat!

I wrestled with something similar for Journelly. One thing I considered is how human readable/consumable I wanted the file to be without additional tooling. Probably not relevant for your use-case as it seems to work more like an rss feed. For my case/format, collapsing in org mode gave a handy overview.

Coincidentally, we use a similar feed of sorts for emacs.tv raw.githubusercontent.com/emac…

By the way, starting the #100DaysToOffload challenge – dopamine pop-corn for the #INCUP #ADHD brain – with Emacs and Org-mode’s built-in academic references system and LaTeX exporter (I also recommend Irreal’s excellent blog and Sacha Chua’s Emacs Planet aggregator for a quick look) is arguably the best way, for an ADHD social media addiction survivor, to get into academia.

Because exporting my own blog posts as PDF documents was the best way to write something down, take a break, and proofread myself, it’s considerably helped me to get comfortable with reading academic publications, speaking as a sociology MSc dropout. I’m literally not sure I’ll get enrolled again for the next academic year, but blogging helps me to keep going regardless of my chances as a wannabe academic.

Today colleagues and I present not one but two #Guix tutorials at Compas, the French #HPC conference!

Notes, journal entries, quick plain text capture, #Journelly can (almost) do it all! It's the perfect mix of simplicity and low-tech plain text wizardry.

My love for this app is not blind, however; check the post for a list of the features I'd love to see. #plainText #org #obsidian @xenodium

Forgot to announce this post. I use my #org archive in #emacs occasionally to revisit timelines for past projects. I also link headings heavily and these links can break as things are archived, which makes these timelines much more difficult to trace. I wrote a function to help address this.
