Does anyone know how many instances are blocking mastodon.social and what their sizes are or where I can get that information for myself?

@Mr. Funk E. Dude It's probably impossible to get a comprehensive list. Some servers don't even publish that information.

@me I feel like that kind of thing should be public record. Like if you’re looking for a new instance to join one of the things you’ll wanna know is not only what instance they are blocking, but who is blocking them as well.

If anything, it would be a good way to know what instances to avoid if you keep seeing instances showing up in block lists.

@Mr. Funk E. Dude I don't disagree. If I were in the market for a new server, failure to publish that information would be an automatic nope from me.

@me When I joined this instance, the list was published on hachyderm.io/about under "Moderated Servers" but now it stopped publishing that.

infosec.exchange/about still lists theirs, which I generally think is better. If I have to flee my instance, jerry's services are probably where I will go.

@BoydStephenSmithJr @me Yeah, mastodon.social list theirs as well. I just looked at it. It’s a huge list. I had no idea that many instances existed. They’re probably mostly bots.

@me why do instances like to keep it private? I agree. I feel like people need to know who is blocked. What’s going on at mastodon.social now?

@ComputerNut43 The most commonly cited reason I've heard is fear of retribition from a server that's been blocked in the form of things like IRL harassment.
