I guess with the influx of new users to the Fediverse, we're doing introductions now, so here's mine:

I'm a # and # enthusiast and developer. I'm also an # who's trying to create safe spaces for those who are recovering from high-demand control groups.

So this whole # # experiment has been a smashing success. This will be the last post I boost from my legacy accounts, and I'll be checking them with less frequency. If you've not followed the new account, now would be a good time.

I want to extend a special thanks to opencube and fosstodon for giving me my first taste of the #.

Content warning: Mormonism, Under the Banner of Heaven (review)

It's not at all like Under the Banner of Heaven, but Harold Bloom's American Religion is really interesting. As stated on the Wikipedia page, Bloom "concludes that in America there is a single, dominant religion of which many nominally distinct denominations are a part. Among these he identifies Mormonism, the Southern Baptist Convention, Pentecostalism, and Seventh-day Adventism. To a lesser extent however, he also includes nearly all "Christian" denominations in America, including mainline Protestantism and Roman Catholicism"

Content warning: Cult Vault Podcast (my episode)

I'll give a listen, I am an # and I am interested in hearing peoples stories about it. So bizarre this popped up in my feed given the subject matter, especially in the fediverse.

totally off topic: wife and I both got up in the middle of the night one night in January 2020 and said we both felt like we were prompted/inspired to get some extra food storage and toilet paper. So we made a plan for the next month to get a few extra things. It was surreal in April when we walked through Walmart not panicking, knowing we were stocked up, but looking at frantic people and empty shelves. I really feel like God was looking out for us. we are hoping to finish our debt-free DIY log home this year - got inspired to get out of the city back in 2012, and finishing and moving into this home will be the end of "phase 1" of our plan. I don't know what other people are being inspired to do, but this feels right to us.

just cuz you're "not mormon" anymore, doesn't mean God doesn't care about your life path.

I thought that was a great book.
@Art X It's quite good, but I have to take breaks in reading. As a fairly recent ex-Mormon, some of it hits pretty close to home.

That said, I'm already 11% through it in one day of reading.
