I don't know how many of us there are who straight up refuse to use Discord regardless of who wants us to and for what purpose. My biggest issue is the mystery meat navigation from one space to another powered by hastily created amateur icons with only tooltips for the NAME of the space. And no option to fix it.

To me a FOSS project on Discord is closed-development model. I will never participate, and everyone who is participating is a black box to me that outputs new free releases.

Seriously, why the F do even companies use Discord for support? There are just so many projects I can't in any way contact to inform them of bugs or etc for the sole simple reason they would require me to sign up for an enshittified network that steals my private info to sell without my permission and then jump through hoops to "join their server" (sometimes with specific requirements even to make a post.)

What the bleep happened to just having an e-mail account or one of those forms on a page? Why did everyone decide this was better? Heck, if you want constant live chat, why not use IRC? It has been around forever and has zero requirements. (You can even use a Javascript client on-page to connect to the right server and autojoin the right channel automatically.)

There's a notable privacy project that does all their dev discussion on Discord. I'm only interested in them because I won't go to Discord. It's pretty wild.

Not tagging them in because I did that and had a brief exchange with their Fedi account about it, which was highly unsatisfying and not worth repeating.

But I feels ya.

+ stop suggesting {Discord, Matrix, Fluxer, Stoat, basically any chat app} as a wiki/docs for your project.

Wikis and docs are one thing, your chats and forums should be a separate thing.

Discord is awful for support.

1) You're lacking privacy as all your content is used to help generate AI learning.

2) Anything useful is lost and you end up exhausting the support staff with the same repeated questions and answers.

Literally what advantage does Discord have over a good old Forum?

I have developed an appreciation for Forums because they are usually just hosted by the service provider, so there's no need to worry about corporations and making unnecessary accounts.

Company I work for spent half a million dollars on specialized printers. Two of them....

And the company official does support via mod tickets in discord....

also: stop using commercial and corporate social media as your only presence on the internet.

Since all these social medias will and definitely block your accounts if your behaviour isn't following their "guidelines" (read: "stay in line or we'll ruin your digital life")
