I'm sure everyone here has "the tech box": that box where you shove the miscelaneous cables and dongles and other crap that isn't currently being used but is too useful to just get rid of. In my case it had spilled over into multiple boxes and had just become a bit of a nightmare.

Anyhow, my parents were getting rid of this guy, so we took it home with us. Katy and I just spent the past hour meticulously going over every single item in our various tech boxes and cataloging them into a system inspired by the one described in @Cory Doctorow's book, Makers.* It's not quite so elaborate as in the book. It's just an org-mode document that tells me exactly which drawer each item is in—no fancy RFID tags, but they're not items with a lot of churn either, so it's fine. Got to admit, it was rather satisfying to my probably #AuDHD brain.

Anyhow, I present to you the new gay tech organizer.

* That system has lived rent free in my head since I read the book like a decade an a half ago.

Edit: I make one little edit to fix a typo (okay two typos) and then need like three more edits to fix the formatting errors those introduced. I'm fired.

It's not much, but it's mine.

An L-shaped desk with a Dell Lattitude E6440 laptop on an aluminum stand with an ultrawide CURA monitor connected as an auxiliary display. Both monotors are displaying a Matrix-style "digital rain" screensaver. A wireless headset is hanging from a cat-shaped hook on the external monitor. There is a full-sized rather boring mechanical keyboard and a trackball connected. An hourglass sits off to the side along with various charging cat toys. To the other side, a shortwave radio sits. There is also a bit of a spaghetti-looking mess of cables littering the desk. Finally, a cat tree is visible in the background. Yes, I have a cat. Also, this might be the longest, most detailed alt-text I've ever typed.

Dear #emacs,

This is very basic elisp. It should not be confusing your paren matching like this.

A screenshot of some emacs lisp code. The cursor is at the end of a line which reads as: (while (< n max) The paren matching is trying to match the closing paren with the less than symbol instead of the opening paren and freaking out about the supposed mismatch.

Sometimes I wish I were less of a perfectionist. I was baking cookies for a potluck tomorrow. The recipe called for the dough to be rolled out into one inch balls. There may or may not have been a caliper involved.

In my defense though, they turned out amazingly. Now I just have to not eat them before they get to where they're going. I did have to eat some though, but strictly for QA purposes.

Got some shading done, but I still have to figure out what to do about the acoustic panels on the wall. I haven't even really attempted that yet. I have some ideas about how I might try to go about this, but despite any appearances to the contrary, I really have no idea what I'm doing. I'm just kinda making it up as I go along.

Why is it that I always find some stupid little line or two that I forgot to draw when I go to colour? The bucket fill tool is a harsh mistress. Also, because the lines are anti-aliased, the bucket fill tool is not a silver bullet. I had to manually touch this up in a lot of places. Still better than colouring everything by hand though.

The decision to add the art to the shirt definitely complicated the process, still the finish line is within sight.

Interestingly enough, as I was painstakingly tracing out my guidelines, I noticed a colouring mistake in the graphic on the tshirt that I hadn't noticed in all the time I'd owned it.
