I have a messenger bag that I typically carry around with me. Sometimes things go in there and I forget about them.
Katy was looking for something and discovered that for some reason I had put our marriage certificate in there. The last time I needed the physical certificate was years ago, so it must've been sitting in there and I've just been carrying it around with me unknowingly for quite some time.
I imagine I should probably find a better place for it.
I should probably also go through it to see what else I've put in there and forgotten about.

I'm an idiot.
I was trying to install #Haskell on a machine and thought the installer was taking a really long time. In my defense, the last line of text was:
Installation may take a while.
It sat at this stage for over an hour while I did other stuff, because I hadn't bothered to read the previous line:
Press ENTER to proceed or ctrl-c to abort.

is a great tool for pointing out where your code can be improved, but sometimes its suggestions are... interesting. Case in point, it just recommended changingmap (\(a, b) -> {- ...stuff... -}) $ zip as bs
to
zipWith (curry (\(a, b) -> {- ...stuff... -})) as bs
instead of
zipWith (\a b -> {- ...stuff... -}) as bs

Got an oscilloscope as a late birthday present. One of the features listed on the box is "firmware updates".
Why on earth would an oscilloscope need firmware updates? It's an oscilloscope.
Next up: learn how to use an oscilloscope. π

We just got tracking now.
Thanks. That's helpful.

I hate when people talk about hobby tools as like "if you value your time"
1) fixing is a skill you should hone
2) fixing can be fun
3) hobbies are not something to optimize
Discussing valuing someone's time spent on hobbies in dollars is the worst grindset babble imaginable

I sell products ready-assembled, and do-it-yourself kits for building the same products. Some of my customers buy the kits because they really like building kits, and that's great.
But others buy the kits because they think they're entitled to the finished product at a lower price, and they begrudge every second of effort they must put into building the kit. Those people really exist and they are the market for tools that purport to save "the value of your time."

@Matthew Skala Yeah, that's valid. If you're doing it to save money - that's fine.
But this is a criticism of the *argument*, not the sale. People can and should sell preassembled things, kits, and more! Not everyone wants to build! But if someone is building on purpose, don't tell them to value their time.

A trailer for the Sierra On-Line documentary has just dropped!
It features both Ken and Roberta Williams β the founders of the most important PC gaming company ever. Certainly, it was the most influential American gaming company after Atari.
Roberta Williams was a huge influence on me and millions of children who primarily gamed on PCs. She brought us Kingβs Quest, Laura Bow, Phantasmagoria, and a host of beautiful PC gaming classics. To me, she was as good of a game designer as Shigeru Miyamoto.
I wish Sierra still existed. I miss the magic that they created.

So a new job opportunity didn't pan out because it caused me a meltdown and a depressive episode the likes of which I haven't felt since the last worst day of my life.
This means I will be trying to find work that doesn't trigger all my mental health problems at once, which is going to be so so much harder. I am disabled and unqualified for most things.
It would save me if I started getting sales more regularly than once every couple months. If you (yes, you!) would be interested in buying a crocheted *anything,* whether I have it in my store or not, please hit me up!!! I will do requests!!! I can also do embroidery!! I can embroider a penis if you want!!!
Please boost my posts and give me a follow and think about if you'd like to buy something. I'm feeling... so bad right now. So so bad. So so so bad.

Can anyone in Waterloo region recommend a place (such as a coffee shop) where one can just sit down with a book for a while? I don't mind if I have to buy a coffee or something. Just looking for a change of scenery.
There's always the library, but the nearest one to me is in a high school, and I feel weird about loitering around there.

So most such images earn a block from me.

I feel like a lot of people who complain about using CWs don't get the point of them VS filters. The way I use them, I use CWs for things that would annoy or upset most people like spoilers for a movie or TV series, or discussions of politics or spiders or whatever. And as convenient way to shorten long posts too.
But I also use filters because I have a couple of specific topics that I know I have issues with, that aren't things many people would think of putting a CW on. And sometimes I use hashtags when I want a post to be responded to or discoverable.
Filters aren't a replacement for CWs, nor should they be. Same goes for hashtags. They're not intended to fulfil the same functions. And in the time it takes to type 10+ hashtags, one could simply put in a CW.

in reply to Eniko Fox • •@Eniko Fox When people fail to use content filters, I just set all their posts to auto-collapse (essentially CW-ing everything they post).
I don't know if Mastodon supports this and it's still somewhat of a game of whack-a-mole, but it's the best solution I've found thus far.
