Another fun aspect of #ADHD life:
I made myself a small meal specifically because I had a medication that needed to be taken with food. An hour after eating, I realize I forgot to actually take the medication.
I wish I could say this was a one off, but let's be real, it's not.
Yay! Today we had 4 more seconds of daylight than yesterday and tomorrow we'll get 8 more seconds of daylight than today!
And I want you all to know that I appreciate every one of those seconds!

We should really have a giant feast around winter solstice, with lots of tiny lights to compensate for the darkness, and like a get-together with the whole family with some good food, and maybe some gifts.
Makes you wonder why no such feast exists.

Okay, so this is going to be amusing to maybe like five people on the planet but...
I've been studying teeline, a shorthand system most typically employed by UK journalists (though apparently becoming less common). In this writing system there are various phrases that have commonly used abbreviations. In today's lesson, the instructor mentioned that the phrase "grievous bodily harm" can be written as GBH.
As an #ExMormon, this abbreviation amuses me.

So, I've had this recent medical condition that we're trying to get a handle on. Of course, my doctor is pointing to the #ADHD meds I've been on for years without issue as the culprit. I saw that coming from a mile away.
He was unable to suggest an alternative.

@TiiaAurora 🌚 I spent 12 Years in a high-demand religion. If I've learned anything from the experience, it's that toxic perfectionism takes a toll on you.
I'm trying to do the best I can, and correcting mistakes as I become aware of them. That's all anyone can really do.

The thing about perfectionism is, that there is not such a thing as the perfect way anyway.

So, I think I figured out why my glucose levels (which had been improving) are spiking again. I got these protein bars to snack on that say they have 3g of sugar. Looking more closely at the label, they actually have a bunch of other stuff that breaks down into sugar as well.
That's unfortunate. They were tasty.
Okay, I'll bite.
What's with all the ../
memes for the past few weeks or so? I get that not sanitizing input for this is a serious security vulnerability, but it's such an elementary exploit that I don't understand why it suddenly seems to be all the rage. What's next? SQL injections? Buffer overflows?
I assume some big company made this mistake recently and I just wasn't paying attention?

Because I have a habit of misplacing things, I have a rule where my glasses are concerned: on my face or in the case.*
This rule does not help me so much when I misplace the case itself.
* This also serves to prevent me from leaving my glasses somewhere that they might be damaged.

My son has a much loved audiobook that he listens to every night. But. One of the line reads in it scared him sometimes, and he sometimes fears to listen because he's worried about it.
We talked, and we're experimenting with a version of the story where the line is said in my voice, I opened the file, cut out the scary line, said it instead in my voice, and left the rest of the audiobook intact.
Talk to me again about DRM.

@Mister Spinalzo yeah! I 100% paid for the book for my son to enjoy! The line reading was great! But sometimes the line read of "a dragon surprises the main character" is too scarey for an anxious 5yo!
Thanks for writting books it's important work!

- Oh sweet summer child, if I didn't drink cold tea, I wouldn't ever get to drink any tea at all. And not for lack of trying.
So the doctor has me on a heart monitor. I'm supposed to wear it for 72 hours and go about my life as normal. First night in, I woke up to two of the leads having detached.
When I was there, they showed me how to replace them and gave me spares so I was able to do that, but this doesn't bode well for the next two nights. I can't control what I do while unconscious.

I did some work on porting miller's work on the risc-v userspace over to 9front, the toolchain works well enough to compile all of /sys/src (at least at the time of its writing). There was some work on a qemu targeted kernel but people lost steam and we never got it booting to userspace.
If you want to check out the userspace parts you can find it here: shithub.us/moody/riscv/HEAD/in…

@moody I probably don't have the C for this, but I wanna! I am gonna look and then mostly get lost.
I should buy DevTerm R01s for some Plan9 devs...

For this reason, I do a research about one new ink to see if I want to buy it.
I look at as many tests as I can found, because the colors on some of them look very different.
And you can't be sure until you do your own color test.
Thanks for sharing yours.
Got back hone from an appointment with a form that specifically says it's to be filled out with blue or black ink.
Why do people have to be so boring?

So it seems that to get the full effect of these new #FountainPen #inks, we need to get our hands on a wetter pen than the ones we've been using.
I have a TWSBI Diamond 580 that should fit the bill, but I'm waiting on a replacement cap that's stuck in the mail strike.
In the meantime, can anyone recommend a reasonably priced (ideally in the sub $100 range) that lays down a good amount of ink?

A CEO gets murdered, and there's a cash reward and a national manhunt along with coverage on every outlet imaginable. Law enforcement pleading for help from the public. Former NYPD Chief of Department made a statement expressing how the person who killed the CEO is not prepared for "how far the NYPD is going to go" in collecting surveillance for the investigation.
The reality is that cops don't even solve most murders. And they sure as hell don't put a fraction of the effort in finding the suspects as they do when it's someone like this. Someone like them. One of them.
Two migrants were recently stabbed in NY, one of them fatally so. It won't get this same kind of attention and resources. The only people and things police serve are the ruling class and their property.
Law enforcement and people in positions of power such as the CEO devalue the lives of many to benefit their own.
Ever since the news came out about the CEO, the responses have been overwhelmingly celebratory.
People all across the country have been wounded by the same sword. All sorts of people have been relating to the violence these vultures perpetuate.
I really hope people don't let it stop here and think about all the ways in which we are impacted by an inherently oppressive capitalist system.

Migrant teen stabbed to death, another wounded in Lower Manhattan; 3 suspects sought
Police say before the chaos, words were exchanged when one of the suspects asked the teens if they spoke English. When they replied 'no,' that's when things took a turn for the worse.Eyewitness News (ABC7 New York)

How old does a #FountainPen have to be before it's considered #vintage? The very first one I ever bought back in 2012 (a Parker GT Urban) doesn't seem to be available any more, though it is still available in ballpoint. Still, maybe I'm just getting old but 2012 doesn't feel very "vintage" to me.
I mean, it's kinda scuffed up because I was a newbie who had no idea how to take care of it, but I'm not looking to sell it or anything. It's more of a curiosity, really.

@FPLover The whole WEARINGEUL brand is pretty nice* but yeah this is it here.
* perhaps a little dry, but I've only actually tried one so far
*looks at my collection of inks*
*whistles innocently*
To be fair, they're mostly samples, relatively few actual bottles.

Some people are now thinking the murder of the UHC CEO was a professional hit.
As I've said before (and others have been disagreeing with me), murdering people for profit is wrong.

So I went into the pharmacy to follow up on the renewal of my #ADHD meds. Turns out this new doctor did in fact respond to the fax requesting the renewal but specifically specified not to fill it until the literal day I was supposed to run out.
Fortunately, I occasionally forget to take them, so I have a few spares, but God damn this guy doesn't understand how ADHD works.

Debian is fine.
Folks like to complain that the packages are too old, but Flatpak makes that not even a thing anymore for most of us.
You know what I like? That I can pull out a laptop I haven't touched in three weeks and there's little that needs updating.
Debian? It's fine. If you like it, you're fine too.

I use Carolina A7 Mini Composition Books, because they fit in a shirt pocket. $1.99 for a pack of 4 at Bi-Mart, so they're a fraction of the price of fancy notepads. And yet they have a sewn binding, and the paper is adequate. Part of my everyday carry.

@Dianora (Diane Bruce) I was a little out of practice, but my handwriting's starting to improve again, though I've mostly been writing in teeline (shorthand) which is pretty illegible in the first place.
I don't feel the need to gatekeep the term "hobbyist". I consider myself to have been a hobbyist from the day I bought my first fountain pen.
