Content warning: PeerTube woes, weighing channel migration options
I have everything backed up, so I'm thinking about either re-uploading them, or (more likely) rehosting elsewhere. I'd love to self-host a PeerTube instance, as I've upgraded my internet connection since I last considered that, but the machine I'm currently hosting most of my services from has limited storage (128GB) and I'm already finding myself needing to make decisions about what to keep and what not to. I'm considering automatically pruning old posts from my Friendica node, as that's taking up a fair chunk of space. I'd love to upgrade my "server" to a NUC with 1TB of storage, but that's a little out of my price range at the moment.
I've also looked at diode.zone, but their terms of service specifically prohibit music under the YouTube license which a couple of my videos use... though, I suppose I could re-edit them.* I am a little concerned that they are a relatively popular server. Popular servers tend to have their mod teams stretched pretty thin, though I don't know if that's particularly been a problem over there. Even if it isn't an issue now, it may become so in the future.
Are there other options I'm missing here? My preference would be to self-host if at all possible, as video tends to consume a non-trivial amount of resources.

* I probably should anyway, since they're apparently not compatible with the Creative Commons licenses I'm using.

Most "made-for-Llinux" games on Steam use some sort of porting library. And Proton (wine) is now better than pretty much all of those. So don't feel bad using it.

Content warning: rant about fediverse etiquette, long-ish post
An argument for doing this on traditional social media can be made in order to avoid being silenced by some algorithm that decides what should and should not be seen based on an opaque set of ever-changing rules. Here on the fediverse there is no such algorithm. There is essentially no valid reason for doing so here.
In fact, any such filter that does exist here is generally put in place by the users themselves, and an attempt to evade such is essentially a violation of their consent.
I understand the argument about CWs, in that there's no way to foresee everything that could possibly upset someone, but there is no good argument in favour of this.
Perhaps for some it's a learned behaviour from the more traditional social media platforms, but if so, I humbly suggest unlearning it.

A few questions if you donโt mindโฆ
How often do you stream and for how long?
Whatโs the average amount of bandwidth you use per stream?
Who do you host with?
And if itโs not too private of a question, what is your average monthly cost?
Thank you for taking the time to answer.

I stream about once a week. I'll go anywhere from an hour to four hours each time.
So far, for the month of March, I've used 4.6GB of bandwidth. I don't know how much per stream. Owncast doesn't hang on to that data. It would be awfully handy if it did.
I self-host, at home, using an old PC, but have used a Raspberry Pi in the past, without issue.
1/2
Here is Owncast's documentation on S3 buckets: https://owncast.online/docs/storage/
And here is Backblaze's pricing structure:
https://help.backblaze.com/hc/en-us/articles/217667478-Understanding-B2-Pricing-Structure
My bill for March, so far, is $0.01.
Owncast also doesn't store past streams. I'm considering setting up my own Peertube instance to do this, and that would also get funneled through Backblaze. I suspect it wouldn't be expensive.
2/2
What would you say is your biggest complaint so far with the software?
I would like the option to store stream data for more than 12 hours. I'm sure I could script something to do that myself, but I haven't looked into it.
There is no built-in notification when someone follows you while you're not streaming. I wrote a python script that does that for me.
An option to store/host past streams for later viewing, ala Twitch, would be nice, but I suspect this would be no small task to add in.

On one hand, it's awesome that full-crcle moderation tools like this exist. On the other hand, it's infuriating how often they are used against marginalized and vulnerable groups rather than in support of them ๐ก
Someone reported it, and a moderator missed the irony?
Without having read the notification (obviously), I suspect the reason for the takedown was Poe's Law:
"Poe's law is an adage of Internet culture saying that, without a clear indicator of the author's intent, any parody of extreme views can be mistaken by some readers for a sincere expression of the views being parodied."

Satire requires explicit indication or it's going to be thrown to the hateful, Nazified masses.
Yes, you have a right to know the case to be met. You had a right to respond before any action was taken & not be blind sided, as it appears you were not afforded that basic right . If that is the case it is arguably enough to throw the decision out ,based on procedural/systemic unfairness, before merits are ever reviewed. You also have the right to to an impartial ,informed, moderator, but I do not know how that is assured.
I'm an old white fella that grew up in prejudice, loves my kids &cares not their sexuality or whom they love or lust after. None of my business .Their lives, their bodies, their choices.I don't have to be an expert on anything to know we are all human, all feel, none of us like rejection, public harassment or being ostracized simply for being ourselves and no harm to others .It hurts to be hurt for no reason. It happened to me at age 3 as my parents were mixed religion
Wait, what? You got into actual trouble for that?
The nubers don't lie, even if they may sting.
De nada. If it turns out to have been a mistake, well, they happen. If it was policy, I migrate.
Was that on mstdn.social? Because i do not run mastodon.online or mastodon.social

In a SM environment where your post is exposed to people from many different backgrounds the risk multiplies.
Suggest using a content warning like "satire".
On your instance, I think the admin is @Gargron, and you could perhaps contact them.
According to this https://docs.joinmastodon.org/admin/moderation/#:~:text=Moderation%20in%20Mastodon%20is%20always,the%20affected%20user%20by%20email. you're supposed to get email for moderation activity on your account as whole.
Its disappearance doesn't inspire me with confidence either.
If you think of migrating, that's an instance I'd avoid.

But Iโm out of both. I canโt work more than I do.
So today โ as much as I can, I have a persistent migraine โ Iโm going to teach, as I often do, to earn your money.
1- Why do my friends keep saying they donโt want me to die and
2- what do I mean by dying?
Iโm about to be more direct with you than I am with my family.
Please take what Iโm about to say as part of the lessons.
And see the perpetual state of emergency some #disabled people are in.
What you may not know is that oxygen is keeping me alive, and until February renting cost me $600 a month.
Every time I went more than 28 hours without oxygen - I mean EVERY time - I had a bad health event that could have ended in death if I couldnโt get back on it.
And some months we had to scramble to cover that cost. It knocked others off the list.
#ThisIsLongCOVID
When I am without the oxygen - and they WILL come and take it back - at some point I die.
Maybe I make it to the hospital and the intubate me first?
Then what, my family pays a fortune on top of what insurance covers to keep me alive.
No.
Luckily that worry is over. A friend drove 3 and ยฝ hours to bring me the oxygen machines her mother used before she passed.
I am free of that bill and the choking gasping nightmares.
I found out in my 20s and it is why I live the way I live. By which I mean I donโt believe in abstract โsomedayโ.
I have the day I have. ๐คท๐พโโ๏ธ
But luckily for me I have the type of cancer that sleeps for a few years or decades,
then wakes to stalk you, taking shorter and shorter naps until it haunts your every step.

I'm not sure "corpse " stockpile is what you want. Depending on the kind of animal (domestic or wild) these corpses may not qualify for that and you may need a "refuse" stockpile instead.
And you may need to disable other jobs on the haulers, because they always choose bad priorities.
