I've been thinking of getting back into designing PCBs as a hobby, but it's been a while. Can anyone recommend a decent (cheap) manufacturer that can make small runs of boards? I don't particularly care if they're quick.
this article and discussion on HN yesterday may offer some insight

There was a cult in Waco, TX that ended up destroying the lives of hundreds.

Tonight, they will be visited by the leader of a cult who has hurt millions.

Something I try to remember: when someone posts something that I disagree with, it is not my job to change their opinion.

I'll happily engage when I want to better understand their reasoning, but if that's not my goal, it's better to just walk away.*

It's something I'm still working on, but I'm getting better.

* Obviously, if it's something harmful, I'll block/report, but most of the time it's not worth it.

Edit: weird typo

Purchased #DwarfFortress on #Steam but I guess I wasn't paying attention. It's only available for Windows. I guess it's back to ANSI graphics rendered in an X11 window.

Don't get me wrong, I love #NetHack's lack of graphics, but primarily because I can play it over a TTY, which isn't the case here.

#LinuxGaming
The steam version has fancy(?) graphics and stuff. Which, right now, targetting Windows is the best way to get it on Linux.

Most "made-for-Llinux" games on Steam use some sort of porting library. And Proton (wine) is now better than pretty much all of those. So don't feel bad using it.

@Darcy Casselman I've already requested a refund, so we'll see how that goes. I was already annoyed at being strong-armed into installing Steam in the first place. If the refund gets denied, I'll look into Proton from there.

Interestingly enough, this is not the first time I've done this dance with Steam.

For the people who have advocated fruitlessly for years for the US to have any substantial data privacy law, it has to feel like gaslighting to see the country's national security apparatus finally focus on what TikTok collects and then conclude the answer is to ban that one app.

Empathic Qubit ๐Ÿฐ๐Ÿ”ฅ reshared this.

it continues to baffle and bewilder me that, as someone not from here, why the U.S. is the only (ostensibly) functional democracy that doesn't have a data protection or privacy law, where everyone else has one? if America is best at one thing, it's creating a permissive environment that allows corporations to sell and share our data at the expense of our privacy and security and face no repercussions when it inevitably goes to shit. case in point, the past ten years.

I guess it's time to replace this charger. It might be a slight safety hazard.

Our new bed frame arrived today. The packaging was surprisingly small, but I swear it had the density of a neutron star.

Iโ€™m considering running an Owncast live streaming server and would love the advice and experience of anyone thatโ€™s already running one. (please boost to reach target audience)

A few questions if you donโ€™t mindโ€ฆ

How often do you stream and for how long?

Whatโ€™s the average amount of bandwidth you use per stream?

Who do you host with?

And if itโ€™s not too private of a question, what is your average monthly cost?

Thank you for taking the time to answer.

@tikke Did you install it from your own server at home or from a hosting provider?
I installed it in my home lab for the moment. Right now, it doesn't appear to eat much but some stress may change that.

Last night I made a very obviously satirical post calling for the โ€œforced transitionโ€ of cis men โ€“ using their actual scare-logic about Trans women but backed up by actual statistics about men. It was very funny if I do, ahem, toot my own horn and, without notification, someone/thing on mastodon.social silently deleted my post.

I know, โ€œjust migrate.โ€ But this does not inspire confidence to me. I feel violated as a Trans person.

I donโ€™t even know who to address my issue with. Iโ€™m just silenced

Interesting thread concluding that Samsung is using an AI model to replace usersโ€™ blurry, super-zoomed photos of the Moon with slightly higher res textures.

How did they discover this?

1. They downloaded a high res image of the Moon
2. Downscaled it to a blurry 170x170px image on their computer monitor
3. Took a photo of it on the Samsung with the room lights out

โ€ฆand they got a magically higher-res Moon! Clever.

Back in the day, I worked for a 1 hour photo developing place. Folks would bring in film, we developed the negatives, then manually printed the photos.

After 4th of July, we got rolls and rolls of crab-like fire work images in the sky.

We would manually adjust darkness and colors to make better pictures.

Seems somewhat similar to the "false color" images of galaxies in other spectra, like IR, or radio frequencies.

Replacing visual content was a #BlackMirror episode

Today marks the 6th month in a row Iโ€™ve failed to reach my #crowdfund goals.

6th month in a row I have not been able to order a renewal of my cancer pill prescription due to lack of money.

Six times in a row I have had to add the balance I owe to the subsequent month โ€” with late fees.

So this month I didnโ€™t bother to increase my stated goal.

I hate to ask again but it costs more than I earn to stay alive every month.
